2022—2024
Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Berlin
The project is a set of artifacts of the process of applying
for a German visa. Since October 2022, for a year, the artist has been collecting documents, which included notarized translations of Russian original papers, letters of intent from German organizations, questionnaires and certificates of language proficiency.
“The Migration Skin” is an attempt to visualize the state when papers become more important than the person himself, his experiences and individual achievements.
This project is based on personal experience, but concerns everyone who finds themselves in a situation of relocation, migration or flight.
Especially for the project, the artist designed stamps that mark copies of documents, IDs and maps, thereby creating the illusion that the viewer is presented with the originals of a non-existent bureaucratic system mixed with real one.
